Crochet SpongeBob Keychain: A Fun and Iconic Amigurumi Project

Recipe:

Materials:

• Yellow yarn (4-ply) for the body
• White yarn for shirt and eyes
• Brown yarn for pants
• Black yarn for shoes and smile
• Red yarn for tie
• Pink yarn for cheeks
• Green yarn for pineapple top
• Light yellow yarn for pineapple
• 6mm black safety eyes
• Fiberfill stuffing
• 2.5mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Keychain ring
• Scissors

Pattern:

Step 1: SpongeBob’s Body

1. With yellow yarn, make a magic ring.
2. Round 1: 6 SC into the ring. (6)
3. Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12)
4. Continue increasing each round until the body reaches the desired size for SpongeBob’s square shape, around 5-6 rounds depending on the size you want.
5. SC around to create the square body, adding fiberfill stuffing as you go.
6. Finish off and weave in the ends.

Step 2: Pants

1. With brown yarn, create a slipknot and attach to the bottom of the body.
2. Crochet SC across the bottom of the body to form pants.
3. Use black yarn for the shoes, crocheting small circles for each foot.

Step 3: Shirt & Tie

1. Use white yarn to create the shirt collar at the top of the pants, crocheting in rounds.
2. With red yarn, create a small triangle for the tie and sew it to the shirt.

Step 4: Eyes, Cheeks, and Face

1. Insert 6mm black safety eyes onto SpongeBob’s face.
2. Use white yarn to crochet small circles around the eyes.
3. With black yarn, embroider a smile.
4. Add pink blush circles on both cheeks using pink yarn.

Step 5: Pineapple

1. With light yellow yarn, crochet a small ball shape to form the pineapple.
2. Attach the pineapple to SpongeBob’s head.
3. For the pineapple leaves, use green yarn and create small leaf shapes by chaining and SC stitches.

Step 6: Assembly

1. Attach the keychain ring to the top of SpongeBob’s head.
2. Secure all parts and weave in the ends.
