Crochet R2-D2 Keychain Pattern

Materials:

• Worsted weight yarn in white, blue, grey, black, and red.
• 2.5mm crochet hook.
• Small black and white buttons for detailing.
• Keychain ring and chain.
• Fiberfill for stuffing.
• Yarn needle.

Stitches Used:

• Chain (CH)
• Single Crochet (SC)
• Slip Stitch (SL ST)
• Increase (INC)
• Decrease (DEC)

Instructions:

Step 1: Body (White Yarn)

1. Start with a magic circle and make 6 SC into the circle. Pull tight and SL ST to close (6 SC).
2. Round 2: INC in each stitch (12 SC).
3. Round 3: SC, INC around (18 SC).
4. Round 4: 2 SC, INC around (24 SC).
5. Rounds 5-10: SC in each stitch around (24 SC).
6. Begin decreasing:
   • Round 11: 2 SC, DEC around (18 SC).
   • Round 12: SC, DEC around (12 SC).
   • Round 13: DEC around (6 SC), close and fasten off. Stuff the body lightly.

Step 2: Head (Grey Yarn)

1. Start with a magic circle and make 6 SC into the circle.
2. Round 2: INC in each stitch (12 SC).
3. Round 3: SC, INC around (18 SC).
4. Rounds 4-6: SC in each stitch around (18 SC).
5. Change to blue yarn and add 2 rounds of SC in blue for the stripe detail.
6. Finish the head, fasten off, and attach it to the body.

Step 3: Arms (White Yarn)

1. CH 6, SC in the second CH from the hook and across (5 SC).
2. Work 3 rows of SC, then fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
3. Make 2 arms and sew them on the sides of the body.

Step 4: Detailing

1. Use small buttons or black yarn to create the eye and detailing on the front of the droid.
2. Add a small red button or stitch for R2-D2’s signature red light.

Step 5: Attaching Keychain

1. Attach a small chain and keyring to the top of the head, threading it through the yarn stitches.
2. Secure it tightly, ensuring that the keychain stays in place.

Step 6: Finishing

• Weave in all ends and trim any excess yarn.
